The 2024 model year is a big one for Mazda as they’re unveiling several new SUV models. Their largest is the new CX-90. This midsize three-row crossover offers a spacious interior, a slew of new tech, and an upscale appearance, making it Mazda’s new flagship crossover. If this SUV seems like one you’d like to own, then keep reading to learn more about what’s offered before it hits our showroom later this year.

Performance

The new CX-90 will be the first new model to utilize Mazda’s latest powertrain: a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine. This new powertrain will utilize a 48-volt hybrid system and come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard. This combination will allow the CX-90 to be able to produce 280 horsepower in non-S trims and 340 hp in S trims.

There is also a plug-in hybrid available. This setup will utilize a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a 17.8-kWh battery. With this combination, the CX-90 will be able to output 323 horsepower and 369 lbs.-ft of torque.

Fuel Economy

The EPA has released no official numbers for the plug-in hybrid model. Though we know that when switched to all-electric power, the CX-90 can get 26 miles of range. As for the inline-six engine, the EPA has rated this engine to get around 24/28 miles per gallon.

Interior/Comfort

As a more upscale SUV, the Mazda CX-90 offers a stylish cabin design that comfortably seats up to eight passengers. A set of second-row captain’s chairs can be installed in the second row, though this will drop the capacity to seven.

The CX-90 doesn’t offer many amenities in its base model, but regardless, they are still elegantly designed, offering leather seating. And in their higher trims, like the Premium Plus, the upholstery is upgraded with soft Napa leather.

Technology & Entertainment

Throughout its various trims, there is a slew of tech and amenities for drivers and passengers to enjoy. There’s a 10.3- or larger 12.3-inch infotainment display that uses Mazda’s latest infotainment interface, and it comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. A seven-inch digital gauge display and an eight-speaker sound system are also available. And optional features include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is optional, as is a 12-speaker Bose stereo.

Safety Features

Every CX-90 model is slated to come with a bevy of safety features in a package Mazda calls i-Activsense. At the moment, little is known about this new system. Still, we do know that this feature will include automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control as standard equipment.

Warranty Coverage

Customers who purchase the new Mazda CX-90 will receive adequate protection. The Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles. And the Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles. However, these plans won’t cover complimentary scheduled maintenance.

Cost

As a more high-end SUV, the CX-90 will have a larger starting price of around $40,000. Those who opt for a higher trim will see an increase in price to around $60,000. And this is all before adding additional packages or optional features to the mix.
