The Mazda CX-9 is a strong choice among midsize SUVs, with a #5 ranking overall in its class. The 2020 Mazda CX-9 gets some changes from the previous model year, including the fact that some safety features that were available on the last model year now come standard. The 2020 Mazda CX-9 also gets an updated infotainment system, which is the option of getting a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen display. Captain's chairs are now offered on all trim levels, while two USB charging ports are added on select trims. The 2019 Mazda CX-9 also got a few minor updates, including the option to add in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A panoramic parking camera was added for the 2019 model year too, and it got a retuned suspension system for a smoother ride. Both Mazda CX-9 models are part of the second Mazda CX-9 generation that debuted in 2016.


Performance and handling are the same for both the 2020 and 2019 versions of The Mazda CX-9. All trims in both model years are powered by a turbocharged 2.5L engine with four cylinders. With regular fuel, the engine generates up to 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft in torque. With premium fuel, however, the power output increases to 250 horsepower, and the torque capacity rises to 320 lb-ft. The engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission for both model years. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available. The all-wheel drive configuration comes with some additional benefits such as Off-Road Traction Assist.


From the outside, the 2020 and 2019 Mazda CX-9 look largely the same. They come standard with 18-inch wheels and LED headlights with high beam control. The top trim levels upgrade to 20-inch wheels, which come with a unique color scheme on the top trim. LED fog lights are added to the Grand Touring trim level, which also gets roof rails. Automatic headlights are added to the Touring in the 2020 model year. LED accent lighting is included on the Signature trim in 2020, and it gets a grille with LED accents in 2019.


The 2020 and 2019 Mazda CX-9 both come with many standard features. Both start with three zones of climate control and a seven-inch display screen. Dual USB charging ports are included at the entry level, and you'll get Mazda's own MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment system as well. A heated steering wheel and ambient interior lighting are added onto the Grand Touring in 2019. Captain's chairs and premium leather seats are added to the Signature in the 2020 model year.
