While the Mazda CX-5 and the Mazda CX-50 have been well-designed under the hood, their capabilities have subtle differences. The Mazda CX-5 has two engine options. Its inline-four engine delivers 187 horsepower, and its turbo inline-four engine offers 227 horsepower. These powertrains are mated to a six-speed automatic shiftable transmission, and they both have standard all-wheel drive. Two powertrains are also available with the 2023 Mazda CX-50 crossover. This model’s inline-four engine offers 187 horsepower, and its turbocharged inline-four produces 227 horsepower. The Mazda CX-50’s powertrains are combined with a six-speed auto transmission and an all-wheel drive drivetrain throughout the trim lineup.

Appearance

While the 2022 Mazda CX-5 and the 2023 Mazda CX-50 have similar family traits, they are easy to differentiate on the road. The Mazda CX-5 is subtly smaller than the Mazda CX-50. It has flowing curves from front to rear and muscular, athletic line arches across the side doors. The nose makes a pleasing statement with its angled, narrow headlights and its chrome-outlined grille. The Mazda CX-50 has a similar profile, but its surfaces are flatter and longer for differentiation. The sides are relatively smooth, and the backsides are well-defined for a powerful look. The wheel wells are molded and squared off. While the Mazda CX-50 has a similar grille design, its grille is black. The headlights are somewhat larger than its sibling’s headlights.

Features

These models are offered with an array of trim levels, so there is considerable differentiation between the trims. However, the Mazda CX-5 and the Mazda CX-50 have various standard features in select trims. For example, you could find equipment like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, heated seats, an auto climate management system, smart device integration, voice controls, a navigation system, a central display screen, and a backup camera in both models.
